plugins/file_manager/files/droplets_small.jpgIt is a constant source of  amazement when an obvious condensation problem is present within a property that many occupants, when challenged, very often deny that they ever do anything that adds significantly to the water vapour levels within a property even if it is obvious that they do. We have surveyed properties where the occupants deny drying clothes on the radiators despite the fact that the decorations are stained from wet clothes being draped over them!

One explanation may be that some householders have decided in their own mind what is causing the problem, very often thinking it is rising damp. This situation sometimes arises when evaluating a guarantee claim and the householder thinks the contractor is 'inventing reasons' why it is not rising damp. Perhaps when confronted with other logical reasons and explanations, due to an understandable lack of knowledge the only safe retreat is denial.

A psychologist’s explanation why this occurs would be gratefully received.
